Grace, love, and communion 168 belong to God, and are not ours to determine. We became more every time we are hewn down by you: the blood of Christians is seed (Apology, 50, 12ff).

That means they face toward the inside, with a sort of invisible magnet of social pressure turning females inward, toward their space in the house or the village. Both of these conjectures flew in the face of everything that the ancient thinkers believed about the cosmos—that is, that it was divine, orderly, and perfect.

There are Africans bought and paid for that support all kinds of things (e.g, Desmond Tutu) but this does not change the African church's position on the issue from Nigeria to Ethiopia. Yet, the human longing to understand and be understood, to love and be loved, to hold and be held onto in healthy relations with others is as strong as ever in contemporary life. It is Heaven as it is now, not the New Heaven that is yet future. Jesus is the necessary ground for belief in God but Jesus is not the sufficient or adequate cause.

Here are some quotations concerning his findings: ... in the hymn Jesus is human ... the hymn, however, speaks of God's action on the man Jesus in the act of exaltation. ... the hymn is about appointment to a new, higher dignity and the beginning of his position as ruler of the world, in other words a real enthronement. Now we move to passages concerned directly with Wisdom. Furthermore, their unity is not a mathematical paradox, but a relational unity, analogous to the unity seen in a good marriage, where husband and wife are united in an ever-growing oneness, but without negating their individuality.13 "Thus, her concept is in harmony with the biblical witness of both the OT and NT.14 After God said, 'Let us make man in our image' (Gen 1:26-27), God proceeded to create humans in a plurality of forms that were capable of becoming one.

Many of these films were noncommercial endeavours, produced by churches as evangelistic and missionary tools. For those who think this way about Jesus, or who just are interested in the sayings of the gospel and what they could have looked like if formed into a philosophy of life, the writers in the school of the "wisdom sage" Jesus are worth reading. So to argue that Christ was not it would be to assert that it does not exist.

The main point of distinction between the doctrine of Mani and the Western branch of Gnosticism (Basilides, Valentinus, etc.), is that in Manichaeism the "cosmology is subservient to the soteriology" (Rudolph, p. 336). Ps. lxvii refers to the Ascension; Joel, ii, 28-32, to the coming of the Paraclete; Is., Ix, to the call of the Gentiles; Mich., iv, 1-7, to the conversion of the Synagogue; Dan., ii, 27-47, to the kingdom of the Messias as compared with the kingdom of the world. Most modern scholars agree that Severus as well as Dioscorus probably diverged from what was defined as orthodoxy more in their emphasis upon the intimacy of the union between God and man in Christ than in any denial that the humanity of Christ and that of mankind are consubstantial.

In particular, apocalyptic is the language of revolution: not that YHWH will destroy the world, but that he will act dramatically within it to bring Israel’s long night of suffering to an end, to usher in the new day in which peace and justice will reign.5 “Apocalyptic” therefore is the natural context for a truly subversive “wisdom.” Wisdom and folly within this worldview are not abstract or timeless.
